Sur Herrera Paredes, PhD

Principal Investigator

Sur obtained his B.Sc. in Genomic Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2009. In 2017 he obtained his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying the plant microbiome under the co-supervision of Prof. Jefferey L. Dangl and Prof. Corbin D. Jones. Afterwards, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University studyíng microbial evolution under the supervision of Prof. Hunter B. Fraser. He started his research group at LIIGH in 2023 where he uses a combination of dry and wet lab approaches to understand how different ecological interactions shape the evolutionary process, and how those ecological interactions evolve.
Carina

Carina Uribe Díaz, MSc

Academic Technician

Carina graduated from the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ) as a Chemical Food Engineer. For her undergraduate thesis, she conducted research at the Biotechnology Laboratory of UAQ. In 2022 she obtained her master's degree in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. At LIIGH she has served as an Academic Technician since 2015 to support the development and innovation of genomics and molecular biology techniques.

monica

Mónica Reyes Ramírez

Undergraduate student

My name is Mónica Reyes Ramírez, and I am currently in my second semester of the Genomic Sciences program at UNAM. I am 19 years old and originally from Chiapas, but three years ago, I moved to Mexico City to attend high school. It was there that I became curious about what a gene is and how it relates to the world around us, which led me to choose this field of study. I consider myself passionate about nature and animal life, with a particular interest in marine life. Some of my hobbies include reading, listening to music, and traveling to explore different places, discover various forms of animal and plant life, and learn more about everything that surrounds us.
